Alleged Fake Green Card Holder Arrested for Reported Bottle Beating
After an incident in mid-May during which Southampton Police said a Riverside man broke a beer bottle over another man's face and was brought into police headquarters, the suspect was arrested on Thursday on felony charges of holding a fake green card, among other charges.
Police said that after Juan Velasquez, 33, struck another man in the face with a beer bottle on May 21, he used the bottle to cut the man's chest several times. The victim was reportedly transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center, receiving multiple stitches to close the wounds.
Police said that upon his arrival to headquarters, Velasquez was found to be in possession of a forged resident alien card.
According to the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, resident alien cards were replaced by permanent resident cards in the mid-1990s.
Police arrested Velasquez on the following charges: criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree (a class D felony), assault in the second degree (a class D felony), and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree (a class A misdemeanor).
He was held overnight and will be arraigned Friday in Southampton Town Justice Court.
Southampton Police did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
