LDS Church News - Moscow, Idaho, preparedness fair accomplishes goals

Gary Kellogg, the event's organizer, said “There has been a lot of good, heartwarming participation by the community.” Some of the organizations that participated included the local police and fire departments, the American Red Cross, Life Flight, Latah County Disaster Services, and Idaho Public Health along with presentations from many Church members from the region.

Daniel Winder, a member of the Moscow Idaho University Stake, said he was “impressed with the diversity of ideas and topics covered.” The displays featured emergency kits, food and water storage, emergency medical dispensing, radio communication, water purification, first aid, dehydrated foods, canning and family fitness.

One primary goal of the fair “was to create good will between the Church and the community,” said Steven F. Rigby, stake president of the Moscow Idaho University Stake. “Secondary to that would be to help people become aware of some of the resources in the community and how to become better prepared, not only for emergencies, but for everyday life and to include finances. The third goal was to get people inside of our building so they could feel the spirit here and potentially become more friendly to the Church.
