Steve Smith: George Michael interviewed by British police
George Michael will be interviewed by British authorities in connection with Rupert Murdoch's News of the World telephone hacking scandal, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The London-based News of the World, which ceased publication last Sunday, was the biggest daily in the world with a circulation of more than eight million.The 48-year-old pop singer posted a statement on his Twitter page accusing Murdoch directly, writing, "I am one of the few people amongst the thousands of News International's targets to have genuinely benefitted from Murdoch's attempts to destroy me."
He also posted that he believes that members of London's Metropolitan police took payments for providing NOTW reporters with confidential inside information. "I just became resigned to it. Perks of the job in the Met."
GRASS ROOTS ROB GRILL DIES
Rob Grill, the bass-playing singer on such hits by `60's pop-rockers The Grass Roots as "Midnight Confessions," "Temptation Eyes," "Let's Live For Today" and "Sooner or Later," died at a hospice in Orlando, FL, of injuries he sustained in a fall last month, reports CBS News. He was 67.
For the past three decades the singer toured constantly, billed as The Grass Roots Starring Rob Grill. He went into semi-retirement a couple years ago, playing select Grass Roots concerts. The band replaced Grill with bass-playing singer Mark Dawson.
However, according to WCBS-FM, Grill planned to rejoin the band full time on The Turtles' current "Happy Together Tour" with The Association, The Buckinghams and Mark Lindsay, former lead singer for Paul Revere and The Raiders.

The two surviving Beatles, Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr have been approached to perform during the opening ceremonies at next year's London Olympics, NBC's Today show is reporting. McCartney is hinting at a reunion at the event. He told Access Hollywood, "I hear there's a rumor that I might be involved. I've not heard anything (specific) yet, but they are now planning the music."
England's Sun says that Olympics Opening Ceremonies head man, Danny Boyle, who directed "Trainspotting" and "Slumdog Millionaire," is "desperate" to have both Beatles involved in the ceremony. An earlier rumor had The Rolling Stones and The Sex Pistols joining McCartney and Starr. The most recent speculation calls for the pair to be joined by Coldplay and a reunion of The Spice Girls.
