Sullivan Brothers opens used-car dealership in Hanover
Sullivan Brothers has expanded its dealership network by opening a 70-vehicle used-car outlet on Route 53. The Kingston-based auto group acquired the 4-acre property last July and began renovating the 15,000-square-foot building, which had been home to South Shore Volkswagen. The Sullivan Brothers Used Vehicle Outlet, where about 15 people work now, opened for business last month.
“I’ve always thought it’s a great area,” co-owner John Sullivan said. “It has a lot of high traffic counts, and the demographics in Hanover and the surrounding towns are terrific.”
Given lingering high gasoline prices, many buyers are looking for imports that get 30 miles per gallon or more, Sullivan said. The dealership is also finding a niche stocking a large number of minivans, a category not well-represented by the competition on Route 53, he said.
“There’s a good need and an opportunity there,” Sullivan said.
Used-car prices had been rising for the past year, and inventories were hurt by deep cuts in production by Japanese automakers affected by the March earthquake and tsunami. But prices are now trending downward again as factories get up to speed, Sullivan said.
The dealership is offering buyers a two-year, 25,000-mile maintenance plan that covers oil changes, tire rotation and belt and hose inspections.
Sales Manager Dennis Bova said the dealership stocks many late-model cars that are still under manufacturer warranties.
The Hanover property also contains a former Chrysler-Jeep showroom that remains vacant. There are no immediate plans to occupy the building, Bova said.
Sullivan Brothers will continue to stock used cars at its auto mall in Kingston, which sells new Toyotas, Nissans and Lincolns. Combined, the dealerships have about 400 used cars in inventory.
Along with his brothers Quin and Brian, Sullivan founded the Kingston dealerships in 1986.
