A pod for use by astronomy classes was recently installed at Middlesex County College, behind Main Hall. The pod contains a telescope that students will use in class, particularly in the evening. The pod is also linked to the classroom, so students can receive data remotely. This will enhance the students interest in astronomy, said Diane Trainor, chair of the Department of Chemistry/Physics. The pod was purchased by a grant from Retail Services Corp., the nonprofit auxiliary enterprise of the College. Drwal Launches Mayoral Campaign | njtoday.net – Everything New Jersey
SAYREVILLE – Noting that Sayreville residents can no longer afford the tax increases approved by the current administration, the team of Stanley Drwal, Councilwoman Lisa Eicher and Mary Novak kicked off their campaign to move Sayreville forward.
Stanley Drwal is a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel and retired math and physics teacher from Cardinal McCarrick High School, South Amboy. He was born and raised in Sayreville and is seeking the position of mayor. Drwal has a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., and master’s degrees in international relations, and national security and strategic planning.
“After over a decade in office, this administration has given us skyrocketing taxes with little to show for the money we spend,” said Drwal. “We need real leadership, because making the tough decisions is not about doing what makes you more popular, it’s about doing what is necessary and right. It’s time to stop focusing on partisan gamesmanship and start working to move Sayreville forward and make it affordable for our families.”
Drwal is a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4699, American Legion Post 211, Knights of Columbus Council 2061, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 67. In his past tenure on Borough Council, Drwal transformed a large area of fallow land into a magnificent nature preserve complete with horseback riding.
Councilwoman Lisa Eicher is a native of Sayreville who is completing her first term on the Borough Council. As an active member of the community, Eicher is a substitute teacher and PTO member in Sayreville public schools and a volunteer coach for youth basketball and softball for 6 years. As a member of Our Lady of Victories Church, Eicher has been a CCD teacher.
“While we need to focus on stabilizing our tax rates, it’s essential that we bring in new businesses and promote economic development,” said Eicher. “Improving our economy and creating more jobs will benefit every aspect of our community.”
Mary Novak is a former president of the Sayreville Borough Council, and former president of the Sayreville First Aid squad. As the wife of a police officer and the mother of four, three of them police officers themselves, she knows, what it means to serve the people. As a member of the Borough Council she oversaw the public works department and brought in automated sanitation trucks to save property tax dollars.
