'Harry Potter' Tickets for Midnight Showing Merrimack are Going Fast

Tickets for Thursday night's midnight showings of part two of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" are disappearing almost as quickly as house elf can disapparate from Hogwarts.

A high demand for tickets early on leads Bob Collins, marketing director for Zyacorp, which owns Merrimack's Cinemagic, to believe that there is a very good chance they will sell out of tickets.

"They have been adding theaters literally daily," Collins said, though he said he couldn't specify the number of theaters the movie would be shown in, citing it as "propriety information."

Collins also said he couldn't comment on how many tickets are available for sale, how many have been sold already or how many tickets have been sold in the past, again citing it as proprietary information.

As of Wednesday night, the Cinemagic website lists six start times for the movie in 2D format and two start times for 3D showings. 

Tickets are, however, on sale and moving quickly for the eighth movie based on the seven-book series about a wizarding world and the "Boy Who Lived." 

The release of part two of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" comes just a couple weeks after the 14 year anniversary of "Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone," penned by J.K. Rowling. 

The Harry Potter franchise has been pulling in crowds of people in high anticipation of both the books and the movies for at least a decade, with midnight book release parties and midnight viewings of the movie.

The first movie, by the same name as the book, was released nearly 10 years ago, around Thanksgiving, and even from the get-go, the movie theaters were holding midnight premieres, Collins said.

Cinemagic theaters have held these special showings for all eight of the movies, Collins said. Merrimack Cinemagic has participated since the theater opened in 2004.

Collins is expecting this to be a big one.

"This will probably be the largest midnight showing we've ever had," he said.

Traditionally, movie-goers have come to the theater dressed like their favorite characters and they start lining up early, building fun and excitement throughout the day. The theaters all have a little something special planned for the event, Collins said.

"They're all doing a little something. Some will play Harry Potter trivia with people waiting in line."

There is no time restriction on when people can start lining up he said. Movie-goers will be able to enter the theaters based on when the movies previous get out, starting around 9:30, Collins said.
