W ith a stage persona that is a mix of Marilyn Monroe, Bette Midler and Dean Martin, Worcester's Nicole "Niki" Luparelli has been wowing area audiences with her ditzy blondness, bawdy brassiness and lovable (let's hope pretend) drunkenness. And now she is ready to take her act to the next level.

Whether it's the timeless medley of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" (from "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes"), Madonna's "Material Girl" and "Big Spender" (from "Sweet Charity"), or the to-die-for version of Britney Spears' "Toxic" sung in French, Luparelli knows how to whip a crowd into a frenzy and make everyone in the audience feel special.

Receiving supple support from her very talented and dapper backup band, the Gold Diggers (featuring vocalist-pianist-keyboardist Dan Burke, bassist Geoff Watson-Oehling, guitarist Andy Cummings, drummer Greg Prendergast and saxophonist Paul Walker), Luparelli's eclectic repertoire of 200 songs and electric stage show run the gambit from beloved Great American Songbook standards, contemporary pop, show tunes, some forgotten classics, a few delightfully cheesy numbers and plenty of irresistible, off-the-cuff banter.

"I feel like I'm an energy vampire sometimes. I feed off everybody in the crowd," Luparelli said. "So, if they're into it and they're looking at me and I can tell they're into it, they're going to get a million times better show and I will actually give myself to them."

Luparelli insists the decision to change her naturally dark auburn-colored locks to platinum blond 11 years ago had nothing to do with Marilyn and everything to do with payback to her then (and soon to be booted to the curb) boyfriend.

"I was dating this guy who I was totally infatuated with. I was a Goth, a Morticia Addams type. He would be checking out any girl who was blond.

The autopsy that was undertaken when the police found her body shows that there were deadly amounts of downers or barbiturates in her body. This will have caused her body to slow down until she eventually died. One of the problems with the OD theory, however, is that Marilyn Monroe did not exhibit some of the typical signs of drug overdose, such as vomiting and the twisted posture that people who OD are usually found in. also, water is usually used to push down the barbiturates. There was no glass of water found in the crime scene, however.

Suicide theory . Another theory that goes hand in hand with the drug overdose theory is that Monroe committed suicide. Plenty of people think of Marilyn as a sex symbol during her time and as one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. Monroe, however, also had a very troubled past. Her childhood years were spent moving from a variety of foster homes, and she had experienced a failed marriage as well as turmoil in her own acting career. Some people believe that these problems forced Monroe to take her own life, through drug overdose.

Drug interaction . Another theory that may explain the question of how did Marilyn Monroe die is that she had taken drugs that had adverse reactions with each other. Monroe had been using potent sleeping pills before the time of her death. Her doctor attempted to introduce her to a milder sleeping pill, but some people suggest that she continued taking the stronger sleeping pills that were provided by her internist. The combination of Nembutal and chloral hydrate that she was taking at the same time may have reacted and caused her death. If the drug interaction theory is correct, then Monroe’s doctor and her internist’s failed communication may be one of the reasons for her death. Of course, Monroe herself chose to use both pills if the theory was correct.

Murder . Another theory is that Monroe was murdered to protect Kennedy’s status. According to rumors, Monroe had an affair with John F. Kennedy and that she eventually learned some of the political secrets behind the Kennedys. This made Monroe a problem for the JFK who was the president at the time, and his younger brother who was also making his own waves in politics. Supposedly, Monroe was murdered through drugs that were introduced into Monroe’s body through the rectum via an enema bag.
