A new accommodation rating system for Brazil has been developed by the Ministry of Tourism in a partnership with the National Institute of Industrial Metrology and Quality. This instrument will guide consumers and will prepare the country to receive tourists during the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games, according to a news release. The Minister of Tourism, Pedro Novais, has signed off on the ordinance. Tourism is seeing heavy gains in Puerto Rico, effectively demonstrating the success and impact of the government’s new marketing campaign, according to a news release. First quarter 2011 hotel occupancy rates show a 4% increase over 2010, and Puerto Rico tourism officials anticipate a 3% to 4% rise in total tourism visits this year, the island’s first increase in five years. Under terms of the deal, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, the investment arm of the United Arab Emirates capital city, will inject US$475 million into the portfolio, the newspaper reported. In exchange, the sovereign wealth fund is receiving a preferred equity stake. Meanwhile, Deutsche Bank AG is refinancing the debt with a US$975-million loan. Hodges Ward Elliott represented IFA Hotel Investments in the capitalization of the Yotel Hotel, located in close proximity to both Times Square and the Javits Convention Center. The 669-room hotel opened 3 June and is part of a new billion-dollar, mixed-use development by Related Companies. The development is strategically located at the highly visible intersection of 42nd  and 10th streets. Hodges Ward Elliott sourced US$240 million of senior, mezzanine, and preferred equity financing which IFA used to retire the construction loan and acquire the Yotel. The financing represents approximately 75% of the hotel’s total development cost. •    The Lane Hotel, in historic downtown Keene, New Hampshire, has joined The Ascend Collection  membership program from Choice Hotels International. The 40-room boutique hotel is operated by Colwen Hotel Management. Following a major renovation, the property reopened in May 2011, with a completely redesigned entrance and lobby featuring a new coffee bar and lounge.
