Cute CdM Pets Needed for 2012 Calendar

Do you have the cutest dog or cat in Corona del Mar? Here’s your chance to get some fame for your pet as part of a 2012 calendar that will be sold with part of the profits going to charity.

“I am on the look out for 2012 dogs and cats from CDM over the next six weeks,” said Patsy Metcalf, the calendar’s creator.

For two years, Metcalf’s pet calendars focused on Balboa Island animals.

“I am changing the emphasis from Balboa Island to CdM because I live here and work here,” Metcalf said. “I walk CdM several times a week and have gotten to know many of the pets and owners in my own neighborhood. I am focusing this week’s shoot on a Pug named Oscar who somehow escaped from his second floor deck and was on the edge of his roof when I gathered some neighbors to help me rescue this cuddly guy.”

Metcalf said she first thought of creating an animal calendar in 2008, when her friend, Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Nick Ut visited her in Newport Beach.

“We spent the afternoon taking fun candid shots of my real estate client’s dogs and cats,” Metcalf said.”He kept coming down and we started accumulating adorable photos that I wanted to share with the community.”

The first calendar was released in 2009, Metcalf said, adding that she’s given calendars to notable people like Kobe Bryant and President Bill Clinton.

“Kobe Bryant laughed and said his kids would love the calendar,” she said.

The calendars will be available for sale in October. They will cost $12, with a portion of the proceeds going to local pet charities. The calendars will be available online, but in other years, Paws of the Planet in Cannery Village has sold them, Metcalf said.

“I think that in today’s fast-paced, text, Twitter, Facebook and email world, it is nice to have an old fashioned calendar with clever quotes, local events and fun shots of our community pets,” she said. “The calendar contains fun quotes and sayings, as well as, hyper-local community events. I love dogs and cats, as well as, writing and photography. I love seeing people turn the pages of the calendar and smiling.
