Solve Windows problem with these handy tools
When things go wrong with your Windows PC, or someone else's, you don't want to fish around or Google for the appropriate tool. Have it right there when you need it, and you'll feel clever for it.
I usually carry a key ring of USB thumb drives with me with a variety of tools on them. Yes, some people laugh at me for it, but they turn out to be handy more often than you'd think.
I want to turn this story into some sort of permanent feature to which suggestions can be made. Or maybe it should be something open like a wiki so that you can make your own changes. I know there are other attempts at this but there's always room for improvement. For instance, it's the sort of thing that could benefit from voting and Amazon-like reviews.
Your suggestions were good. However, I must admit to a degree of frustration when it is suggested that one should use a Windows __ installation disk. My last three (HP) PCs came with the Microsoft OS already installed and partitioned. Once upon a time, this option was just that - an option. Now, pre-installed OSes are becoming the rule rather than the exception. (It's cheaper that way, don't you know?) Unfortunately, us 'pre-installed' customers miss out on some good diagnostics, etc. that often come with the CDs. C'est la guerre.
I haven't used spinrite, but you might want to try out ZAR for recovery http://www.z-a-recovery....a-recovery-software.htm from damaged discs in windows. Without a license it runs in free mode which will allow you to recover images from a bad memory card or limited number of files from a HD. And you can put it on a portable thumb drive if you need to. It saved me a couple of times since I bought it :).

You probably want to keep at least some of these tools on CD or DVD-ROM disks as well, but I think we've reached the point where you're more likely to find a system with workable USB than a CD or DVD drive. I'm writing this post on a notebook with 3
Virtual windows 98 and CD-ROM problems with Donald Duck - Cold ...
So I did a (very heavy) research on the internet, and figured that old CD drivers had a cable that directly linked them to the sound card, and that was to directly send the music into the sound card, without any interaction of the motherboard. This method is probably the core of the problem, but since I'm using an PC "emulator", I can't check this cable. I really hope you guys can give me some opinion on it, because I'm running out of ideas (aside from assembling an old PC...). I thought maybe I'm missing some configuration, either from the win98 (I've tried the digital blah blah from the multimedia section, too), or the BIN/CUE image (I'm using DAEMON tools lite). Maybe an iso mounter that emulates old CD-ROM drivers?
