Entries pour in for Cairns' week of golf

GOLFERS from all over Australia are honing their swings in readiness for the annual City of Cairns Golf Week starting next Sunday.

Entries have been received from all over Queensland and as far as Darwin and New South Wales for the week-long festival of golf.

Cairns Golf Club professional Brett Wilson said the event offered the chance for golfers to test their mettle against some of the finest players in the region and interstate.

But Wilson said many golfers saw it not only as a battle for glory, but also as a holiday to soak up all that the Far North has to offer.

"It’s an annual pilgrimage for many to come to Cairns, play golf and catch up with old friends," he said.

The yearly golf week has been running for more than 30 years.

It starts next Sunday with a four-ball better-ball stableford event, before a two-day ladies stroke event on Monday and Tuesday.

The men then hit the course for a single stableford event on Wednesday, followed by the showpiece of the week, the 54-hole men’s championship from Friday to Sunday.

Wilson said the scene for the week was perfectly set, with the lush condition of the course sure to impress the players.

"The course is in magnificent condition," he said.

"I've been the golf pro here for 25 years and it’s in the best condition I’ve seen it."

Members from all golf clubs are welcome, and while the nomination date has passed, Wilson said golfers could still nominate as they look to attract as many competitors as possible. Nomination forms are available from the Cairns Golf Club.

I've been using Tufoil since 1998. Tufoil holds the Guinness World Record for the slickest substance on the planet. The main ingredient in Tufoil is PTFE, the prime element in DuPont's Teflon. Tufoil company discovered a way to break apart PTFE particles into extremely small particles, down around 0.5-1.0 microns. Other PTFE-based products can be hazardous to engines because the particles are very large and have a tendency to build up and block tiny oil passages. Tufoil's PTFE particles are so small that an electron microscope has to be used to see them, and blockage doesn't happen. Tufoil conducted stress tests on around 50 engine additive products with a 4-ball wear test machine. A spinning shaft is pressed against by four static ball bearings. The shaft is coated with the test oil for a certain amount of time, then the shaft's scar is measured. Another test is to see how long the shaft will spin until the additive smokes away. All 50 products tested burned off in under 5 minutes. Tufoil lasted 16 days. I've used Tufoil in my manual gearboxes and differentials. This application is amazing when coupled with synthetic gear oil. It's like taking 500 lbs out of your trunk. Shifter motion becomes super smooth and easy. Everything becomes quiet and silky smooth.
